Congratulations to Friends who became the 2008 league champions after an enthrawling finish to the end of the season and bad luck to Go With The Flow who lost by one point after tying with Friends over the last three weeks, in third place where University Challenge who were only 6 points behind.
The final results of the season went like this, the General Knowledge Quiz was shared by Just Us and Peanuts with 33 points.
The Picture Pub Quiz was shared by Friends, Corner 5 and Squabblers who all scored 10 out of 10 on Famous Film Stars.
The Anagram was solved first by Just Us, the answer being China In Your Hand.
The overall quiz was won by Just Us with The Golden Girls in second place followed in third place Peanuts.

With only a few weeks to go, who are going to win the title. Friends and Go With The Flow have been fighting at the top for the last month, but will University Challenge, Jay's Mob, Just Us or maybe The Golden Girls pip them for the title, it's going to the wire.
This week the Golden Girls took first place with 52 Points, runners up were Corner 5 with 51 Points, tying for third place that went to a tie break question where We Three and Go With the Flow, We Three won the tie break.
The Picture Pub Quiz was on Pop Groups and Solo Singers, only three teams managed to recognise all the faces, they were Friends, We Three and The Golden Girls.
The General Knowledge Quiz was won by Corner 5 with 43 Points followed by The Golden Girls, Just Us and Go With The Flow with 42 Points.
The Anagram was solved first by the Hopeless Beginners so they got the extra point, one question was disputed ( What do Dogs, Wolves, Foxes and Seals have in common?) Answer they all have Pups, it was argued that Wolves and Foxes have Cubs but when checked it was stated that when they are young they are called Pups.

Well done to Just Us who have now merged with Fandango, they came top with a total of 52 points on the general knowledge quiz, closely followed by Squabblers with 51 points then there was a tie breaker for third place between We Three and Go With The Flow the Pop Music question was, in what year did Gloria Gaynor have a number 1 with "I Will Survive" the answer being 1979, We Three where nearest with 1978.
The pictures this week contained 10 Television Shows only three teams got maximum points they were Squabblers, Just Us and Family Fortunes most teams did not get the T.V. Series "Bonekickers".

Well done to the nine teams who took part in last nights table quiz, considering how bad the weather was.
But it was a happy quiz never the less, especially Squabblers who could not stop laughing all night, the never did tell me what the joke was.
Back to the quiz which was won by the Golden Girls after a tie break question with Friends, the question was "What is the average weight of a fully grown male aardvark" the answer being 150lbs, Golden Girls answered 145lbs and Friends had 180lbs, so Golden Girls won, in third place was Just Us who missed out by 1 point.
Top in the general knowledge quiz was again a tie between Golden Girls and Friends with 38 points each.

Back to the quiz which was won by the Golden Girls after a tie break question with Friends, the question was "What is the average weight of a fully grown male aardvark" the answer being 150lbs, Golden Girls answered 145lbs and Friends had 180lbs, so Golden Girls won, in third place was Just Us who missed out by 1 point.
Top in the general knowledge quiz was again a tie between Golden Girls and Friends with 38 points each.

Well another close finish in the Table Quiz, only 8 points seperating the 15 teams. This weeks winners were Just Us with 50 points in second place came Corner 5 with 48 points, the Golden Girls and We Three tied for third place on 46 points.
Family Fortunes and University Challenge got the bonus point for solving the anagram first.
Just us came top in the General Knowledge Quiz round with 40 points and 7 teams got all 10 Logo pictures on Financial Companies correct.
Most teams got the Pop Music Quiz question correct, answer Gerry and the Pacemakers. Everyone got the Sports Quiz question correct, answer Evander Holyfield.
No questions were disputed, but some teams still tried to pull the wool over my eyes, please find up to date table below.

Funquiznights - 16th September 2008
Go With The Flow win tuesdays table quiz by 3 points and stay top of the league, The Golden Girls came second but there was a three way tie for third place between Jay's Mob, Just Us and University Challenge.
Tie break question was in what year did whipping children become illegal (Short debate on whether it should of stopped) but back to the quiz, the answer was 1932 and Just Us were closer with 1896 so they took third prize.
Logos were this weeks picture quiz and Go With The Flow, Golden Girls, Friends & Corner 5 getting 10 out of 10.
The Anagram was solved first by Peanuts and Just Us so they got the extra point, one question was disputed about Welsh counties (Which is the only Welsh County not to have a coastline), the answer was Powys but Squabblers contested the answer and added that Wrexham was also correct. I have since checked and Wrexham is a County Borough, which is different from being a County and is not on any Welsh Maps as being a county.
Most interesting question was name the 5 largest planet in our solar system and for a bonus point if any team puts the in the correct order from largest to smallest of the five they get an extra point (Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Earth) four teams managed to get them all in the correct order.

Funquiznight - 9th September 2008
Well what an exciting finish to tuesday's table quiz, a four way tie. Go With The Flow, The Bar Flies Boys, Jay's Mob and Squabblers all had 54 points. So a tie breaker question came into play(How many countries took part in the Commonwealth Games in Manchester, the answer 72) The Bar Flies Boys answered 89 so they were the nearest and won the quiz, with Go With The Flow and Jay's Mob taking second and third places.
The Picture Quiz on Television Shows, was shared by Jay's Mob and The Bar Flies Boys with 10 out of 10, a lot of teams went for Porridge but as the picture showed Ronnie Barker walking away from the jail, the answer was Going Straight.
Peter from University Challenge was very quick on the Anagram and came up with the correct answer "Written In The Stars" to earn his team an extra point.
Two general knowledge questions were queried "Which four countries share a land border with Italy" the answer being (Switzerland, Slovenia, France, Austria) Steve from Jay's Mob thought that San Marino was another, but it is classed as a Independant State within Italy just like the Vatican City.
The second disputed question was "In 1936, the American athlete Jesse Owens became the holder of the World 100 meters sprint record, what was his time" a few teams thought that meters were not used back then but yards. But after double cheking the answer, meters was correct.
So after tuesdays game Go With The Flow leapfrog over Friends to take top position with University Challenge in third place. The Bar Flies Boys won the quick fire quiz at the end so won the bottle of wine and completed the double.

2nd September Pub Quiz Report
The Pub Quiz this week went really well with University Challenge coming out on top with 47 points, closely followed by Friends and Go With The Flow.
We used the General Knowledge Pub Quiz with most teams scoring over 70%, the Logo Pub Quiz was a great success, remembering these famous brand company names was a lot of fun. Peanuts won this section with 19 correct answers out of 20.
Then came Fandango who came into there own on the Celebrity Pictures correctly recognizing all the faces of 20 Celebrities. But what won it for University Challenge was solving the Dingbat (Rebus) Puzzles with 12 correct Answers out of 12.
But everyone enjoyed the Questions and this told by how many correct Answers the teams came in with, so looking forward to another Table Quiz next week.
